Africa has made enormous investments in expanding access to education.

More children are entering classrooms. More young people are reaching universities. A lot of adults are accessing courses, books and digital learning.

But access to knowledge is not the same as learning.

Learning is not the same as capability. And capability is not the same as execution.

A person can read without understanding. Understand without applying.

Apply without mastering.

And complete years of education without becoming significantly better at solving real-world problems.

A child can pass an examination but struggle with an unfamiliar problem.

A graduate can earn a degree but struggle to perform effectively in the workplace.

A professional can complete training but return to the same behaviour.

An entrepreneur can consume hundreds of hours of business education yet struggle to turn knowledge into a viable business.

These outcomes are not necessarily failures of intelligence or effort.

They reveal problems in learning design, curriculum, practice, assessment, implementation and transfer.

This leads us to a different question:

What did learning make them capable of doing?

That is the question at the heart of EVUNN Institute.
